500ml bottle from Bevmo
A gusher. Pours dark brown with a medium sized tan head, good lacing. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate and earthy. Taste of chocolate, roasted malts, caramel and pine
A good beer but not a good example of a black ipa

500ml bottle. Clear, dark mahogany colour with average to huge, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma has chocolate and coffee notes, slightly weak hoppy counterweight delivers disguised hints of orange and grapefruit, a touch of blackberry. Taste is dry, roasty dark malty, hints of coffee, slightly grassy, herbal, minimally biting bitter hoppy overtones, hints of blackberry; soft palate, a bit light bodied and almost close to watery. There’s leeway for progression.

Bottle from Ales by Mail. Black pour with a beige head. Aromas of chocolate, soy sauce, toffee, caramel and dark fruit. Lots of licorice and raisin in the flavour. Light bitter zing. Doesn’t quite fit my idea of a Black IPA, not enough bitterness for me. Still it was a tasty old brew.

Bottle 500ml (BBE 01/2015, ABM)
Dark brown color, good steady brownish head. Sticky aroma has ash, licorice, rye bread. Medium-bodied. Ashy, dark malty with some licorice. Bitter, harsh aftertaste. With its ashy-burned, bitter flavor, it is a bit unbalanced for my taste. Probably when it is fresh, hops taste better here.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared by Dutchdrebus. Opaque dark brown to black color, full sized decently lasting rough slightly brown head that leaves fair lacing. Aroma is malts, light to moderately hoppy, lightly roasty, slightly iron. Taste malts, lightly hops, roasted malts, bitter. Hmm quite nice: malts, dark and roasted malts mixed with some hops. Decently lasting roasty hoppy aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Pretty damn nice! Well balanced!!

500ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb, Cheers Ash! Pours black with a fading tan head. Aromas of liquorice and tar, dark chocolate. Taste is cocoa bitter, then a hit of hop bitterness. More a bitter dry stout than a Black IPA.
