Helles (or Hell) means “pale” or “light” in German and this beer is just that, a simple pale lager that is not as hoppy as its brother, Pilsner. Ours is a touch hoppier than what you would find in Germany, but still light and refreshing. Available at the end of February/early March.

Nice balanced, clean Helles. A bit hoppier Ryan I’d expect from the style—WC Helles?

473mL can, pours a somewhat hazy copper golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out a nice spicy, grassy hop character, a touch of cracked black pepper, and crisp biscuity malt. Flavour is crisp, with a nice herbaceous hop character, light spiciness, and crisp biscuity malt. I've had more vibrant helleses before, but this is clean and thirst-quenching. Good but perhaps not at the highest level that Heater Allen is known for.

Golden clear body with white head. Grassy spring aroma. Malty taste with a hop skin, but malty primarily. Crisp finish

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy pale golden, medium creamy white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is bready, grass, floral notes. Flavor is very light sweet, light bitter, bready floral with a bit of spice. Medium body, soft mouthfeel.

Bottle in Portland (USA) with luttonm. Gold cloudy bright pour, tick white head. Nose: perfect! Grainy, clean nose of cereals, a bit bready and biscuits. Terrific! Mouth stays clean, less rustic compared to the nose, more watery, mineral and honey notes.
