In late 2019 we blended together a one-year-old, spontaneously fermented, beer with a barleywine-inspired wild ale that had fermented and aged upon California Flame raisins for nine months. This blend was allowed to undergo a secondary fermentation, in barrel, marrying the two beers over the course of seventeen months before being laid to rest in bottles. The resulting beer, more akin to fortified wine in its profile, was packaged still and offers notes of brown sugar, late harvest grape, luxardo cherry, and cassis. From us to you, we present A Moment’s Rest.

Poured from 375mL bottle. Cloudy brown with minimal white head. Raisin and balsamic character. A bit sweet, okay.

Dark amber. Pours flat. This smells like raisins. On the palate, more raisins. Acetic notes, the raisiny sweetness counters this a bit, but it's still pretty acidic. Some barrels. Ok, it's actually pretty good, but unusual and doesn't necessarily hit for me.

375mL bottle, pours a deep dark muddy rusted reddish brown with a tiny beige head. Aroma brings out plenty of dark red raisins, red grapes, and some oak. Flavour is perfumey, with lots of enamel-stripping balsamic, sour raisins, oak, and grape skins. Oaky, grape-y, and somewhat buggy. It's an odd one. Doesn't really work, but maybe it did upon release?
