Bring Out Your Dead is a rich Imperial Stout aged in cognac barrels, released just once a year — Double BOYD is, as you might have guessed, aged twice in oak and exponentially more intense.
The decadent 2023 iteration spent a combined almost 3 years (33 months to be exact) in barrels: 12 months in Cognac and an additional 21 months in Rye. It's a particularly spirit-forward batch marked by hints of clove, vanilla, and and a touch of rye heat.

Not getting much rye spice, but chocolate and a lot of raisin.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Nice cognac, some rye backing, thick chocolate, very nice.

Inky black, not much head. Explodes from the glass with a nutty, charred fruit, toasty light roast coffee, The cognac is awesome, very well-balanced, and the rye rolls into the finish alongside bitter chocolate. That's all just on the nose. This is rich dark sugars, like very dark to the point of being fruity. Notes of plums, toasted almonds, cassareep, the cognac and rye barrels both coming through. Exceptional quality - complexity, balance, richness, everything you want in a barrel-aged impy.

500mL bottle, pours jet black with a small brown head. Aroma is rich, with tons of cognac upfront, a touch of whiskey, molasses, moderate roast, and light sugars. Flavour is wonderfully rich, with an elegant cognac barrel character striking me initially, with a rich molasses base, maybe a touch of spicy whiskey from the rye, and dark sugars on the finish, again rounded out by the cognac. Wonderfully barrel-aged -- that cognac especially is lovely. Beauty.

500ml (thx, Josh!) @ Matt's new place. Appearance: very dark brown with a dark brown head. Aroma: an explosion of oak with spicy rye and fruity cognac notes, chocolate, and some vanilla. Taste: along the same lines, thick, quite sweet. Overall: very nice seeper.
