Here in Moxee, WA, September means harvest: coordinating with the barley maltster as the fruity, herbal smells of fresh hops being cut and kilned waft in our windows. Now in our third season as barley farmers and 90 years after the first hops were planted on our family farm, we're proud to share with you this Homegrown IPA featuring our homegrown hops and barley with a generous addition of freshly picked Simcoe® hops. Notes of ripe lemon, grapefruit, blueberry, pine resin, and fresh-cut grass.

Malt: Homegrown Pilsner, Pale, and Dextrine barley malts
Hops: Simcoe®, Mosaic®, Citra®, and Simcoe® wet hops

Gold, not much head, light pine, hint of orange. Pretty good IPA, all told.

On tap at Bale Breaker, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out dank hops, doughy malt, and a touch of pine. Flavour is full of bitter dank hops, some pine cones, and crisp biscuity malt. Bitter pine cones and dankness on the finish. Excellent.

Draft pour to a tulip at Elliott Bay Pizza. Glad to see them bring this one back for year 2, as I missed it last year. We'll, missed rating it anyway. As clean and crystal clear gold as it gets. Could double as a cider if it weren't for the rocky foam head. Grassy, onion hop nose, moderately dank. Flavor has lots more of these inviting grassy hops with a good dose of bitter linger. Crisp forward sip. Oily resinous hop quality. Coating hop heavy palate. Modest end for this IPA in strength, but drinks big. Solid brew that really makes me miss drinking in their hop field porch beer garden. Awesome.

Pint can. Light golden in color with a modest white head. Smells of dirty florals and grass, it's earthy. Lightly sweet up front with a moderate level of bitterness. Earthy, dirty floral, and a touch of pine. There's something about the Bale Breaker barley that brings a signature flavor and I'm getting that here.. a mellow, sweet maltiness. Sorta washes out the hop flavors that should be more prevalent.
