Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark brown colour, near black; tan head. It's moderately roasty, and quite earthy, with alcohol notes, barrel; bit of cardboard in the the finish. Not my style of beer; too earthy.

16oz shared with Alex (thx for the beer, man!) and Ryan @ home. Appearance: brown with a beige head. Aroma: inky, roasted malts, some rye spice. Taste: along the same lines. Finishes very bitter, roasty, and rough. Overall: no, thanks. Too roasty and harsh.

Dark brown. The aroma is cocoa, nutty. On the palate, it's off-dry, lots of rye, light chocolate. Medium bitterness. Good malt character, off-dry finish, with a bit of roast.

473mL can. Pours black with minimal beige head. Aroma malty and coffee; strong spice foundation. Flavour roasted malt and notes of coffee. A very good balance of the constituent flavours. Surprisingly good.

473mL can, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma reveals some spicy, earthy rye, medium roast, and soft bready notes. Flavour is roasty, with lots of roasted malt, spicy rye, earthiness, and bready malt. Roasty, spicy, dry finish. What the hell? This is well-made.
