The Cracker Cowboys of Florida were colonial-era settlers, often of Scots-Irish descent, who arrived in Florida when Spain traded their territory of La Florida to the English. The term Cracker in Florida usage relates to the whip these “cow hunters” used to herd cattle in Florida’s Palmetto Prairies. Called Quaqueros by the Spanish, these hardy and hard working Cracker Cowboys helped to shape the history of Florida, the nation’s oldest cattle raising state. We brew Florida Cracker White Ale with unmalted wheat, orange peel and coriander and then ferment it with a Belgianyeast strain to give it a spicy and dry finish. Perfect for a warm day on the Palmetto Prairie.

28.06.2018 -- 12 fl oz can from qoqa, canned on 15.12.2017. pours a milky lemon yellow with a medium head. aroma of coriander, citrus, slight pickles, that must be the saison yeast. flavour of orange zest, coriander, grass. somewhat rubbery mouthfeel. good but not great.

355ml can at Brewdog, Bristol. Pours lightly hazed golden with a white top. Aroma: pale malts, wheat, yeast esters, light spices. Taste: moderate sweet, wheat, dry, banana esters, lemon, coriander. LIght body, average carb, lightly dry finish.

Tap. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is bubblegum, dough, wheat, herbal, rosemary. Taste is bubblegum, resinous, grassy, earthy, spicy yeast. Oily mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Not quite for me, but certainly well-made.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 4/4/2018. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white white with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lemon, orange zest, pear, red apple, melon, coriander, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange zest, pear, red apple, melon, coriander, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Mild herbal/grassy bitterness, yeast spiciness, and wheat tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, orange zest, pear, red apple, melon, coriander, peppercorn, clove, light banana/bubblegum, wheat, biscuit dough, light honey, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance; and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a fantastic witbier! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the mildly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Extremely flavorful for the ABV, with an awesome mouthfeel. Perfectly balanced yeast, spices, and pale/wheat malts. Very well rounded complexities. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. One of the best I have had.

12 oz. can from Binny's. So I learned something about where the pejorative "cracker" comes from. I'd kind of hoped it was named because they used cracker meal in the grist, but no. So the pour does offer a "zesty," just slightly lemony nose with a note of salt and coriander. The beer has a slightly puffy white head over a yellow body with white haze. The carbonation seems low, until the beer gets to the back of the throat. The beer itself has a very slightly tart taste and, again, the slightly salty note of coriander, with a bit of citrus zest. The aftertaste on the lips is almost like a balm instead of the usual sugary malt. The beer is quite drinkable. I might not say it compares directly to exemplars of the style like a Hoegaarden, but it certainly can stay in the neighborhood.

(Tap sample @ MBCC 2017 Red Session, Copenhagen) Hazy pale gold pour with a big white head. Notes of grainy, crackery wheat, some orange peel, herbal notes that have a little explicit coriander, lightly sweet with a few spicy phenols.The grain largely overpowers the typical wit additions for me though. Light bodied, average fizzy carbonation. Not really for me, I don't derive much excitement from it even though it's still competent brewing. My preference in a wit is a little more rounded and less grain-forward.

(Draught at Man In the Moon, Stockholm, 30 Nov 2017) Golden colour, slightly hazy, with white head. Fruity, malty nose with citrus, bread and hints of cedar wood. Malty, fruity taste with notes of wheat, citrus, white bread, hay, a touch of cedar wood, some coriander and a mild citric bitterness. Medium body, mainly dry. Tasty and refreshing. Quite nice.
