Manhattan Mild

We like our Manhattan’s made with 100% Canadian Rye Whiskey for its distinct spiciness, as was the choice during prohibition when skiffs hauled it over the Great Lakes to the US. Which is why we’ve used so much rye malt in this beer. You’ll notice notes of dark maraschino cherry, caramel, citrus, almond and vanilla. A hint of bitterness and a subtle herbaceous sweetness.

Pale brown, just thin head. Toasty, good rye, mellow and a touch of acidity. Bit strong for a mild bit it's more a rye beer anyway.

On tap at House of Funk, pours a clear copper amber with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out lots of bready malt, earthy rye, and a touch of spiciness. Flavour is very rye-dominated, with a spicy rye character and dry bready malt base. The rye definitely dominates, leaving a bone dry, quite bitter finish. Gutsy move to use this much rye malt. It sort of works but it's a rather unidimensional beer. Interesting experiment.
