A truly NW original, Black IPA is surprisingly light on the palate, velvety smooth, and offers both power and finesse – generously layered with piney hops, and a hint of roasted malts for a lingering, flavorful finish. Also commonly referred to as CDA or India Black Ale.

Very dark brown with a thick head. Toasty malts and piney hops, with a bit of citrus. The palate is big, with a lot of bitterness. Very hoppy, and the hops are bright. Long finish, full of roast, and chocolate, and of course more of those orangey, piney hops. This is a very good example.

On tap at 7 Seas - Tacoma, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small tan head. Aroma brings out pungent earthy hops, light pine, and medium toasted malt. Flavour is reasonably balanced, with a nice big roasted malt base which makes way for big earthy and resinous hops. Big and bold, with great balance on the finish. Excellent.
