A funky farmhouse ale, set ablaze with hops from the Pacific Northwest. Inspired by the hop-focused West Coast craft brewers, and the dry and refreshing saisons of Belgium, this ale blends a spicy and fruity yeast character with vibrant and pungent hops.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a good amount of sweet citrus with light grains and funk underlying. Flavor has mainly sweet citrus with some bitterness, some grass and a decent amount of floral.

So I put this guy on my Facebook list, and suddenly today he pops a picture of his very first beer on tap at the Lemon Tree. So there I go, for a $6 shakerful. Intensely cloudy yellow brown color, almost no head. A sour impression in the nose, then it’s overwhelmed by a lot of tropical fruit hops. Taste is of a saison, but at first mainly a hoppy palate burn with mango and pine. Now it’s showing some thin legs at the side of the glass. Other impression emerge of lemongrass, and later grapefruit. Despite the high IBU listing, the hops are delivering a lot more flavor than bitterness. Brewer Chris Betts has told me about using Citra and Simcoe, though I hope to find out more about his open fermenting system.
