Oct. ’14. A 0.5l bottle. It poured clear copper-brown body with medium sized, slightly off-white head. Weak, but decent caramel and a bit grainy aroma. Flavor was also lightly sweet, toasted (both caramel and latte), grainy, bread malt. Medium bodied with a bit too rough grainy finish. Okay for a macro dunkel, although didn’t ring my bells.

bottle at home bought at the Merkur next to my place. redish / brown, clear color. big off-white head. smells quite malty sweet, some bread, light cocoa / milky, also some light fruity smell, that disappears quickly from the glass. medium body, quite slick mouthfeel, soft carbonation, light chocolate that disappears quickly, some light roast aroma, some toffee, a bit grainy, bread, almost not sweetness, which is quite contrary to the smell. grainy / dry finish. did not expect so many flavors on this, so a bit surprising. the flavors are rather limited though, meaning they disappear rather quick and get hidden under the grainy / dry finish, which i did not like. it actually makes the experience a bit unpleasant. could have been better.

Bottle from a Billa in Vienna. Pours ruddy dark copper with a slight beige head. Smells like a toasty Vienna. Med body, nearly. Tastes like a toasty, very lightly smoked Vienna. Even seems to have a woody note. Intriguing what it does to my brain, but it’s just a little too sweet for real enjoyment. Flavors are so light, there’s room for the imagination to run wild.

Clear dark copper, small off-white head, leaves some lacing. Aroma roasty caramel, hint of cocoa, some butterscotch, dough. Taste roasty sweet caramel, slightly bitter but more strongly in aftertaste, medium body, creamy and roasty, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish.

bottle from Merkur Wien-Hütteldorf. Clear brown, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts and caramel. Light- to medium-bodied with a pleasant malty sweetness, lots of dark malts that add caramel and chocolate. Nice.
