For the past two years The Lost Abbey has released a winter barrel aged blended strong ale. This amazing blend of beer has focused on a marriage between Bourbon Barrel Aged Serpents Stout and Brandy Barrel Aged Angel’s Share. We believe it’s one of the most amazing barrel releases we do each fall.

But in the spirit of old recordings and records I started thinking what would happen if we played this one in reverse? Would we hear the Demon himself on the record? So with that, we flipped the blend on its ears and spun it backwards. The result is a blend of Brandy Barrel Aged Serpent’s Stout and some Bourbon Barrel Aged Angel’s Share.

It’s still an epic struggle between good and evil, only this time we slowed it down and played it in reverse.

Bottle bought through Drikkeriget. Pours viscous black with a very small mocha head that doesn’t leave any trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, raisins, moist soil, bourbon alcohol and hints of brandy. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter, malty and boozy. Mouthfeel is viscous oily, round, tiny astringent, boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, rich dark chocolate, moist soil, roasted coconut, raisins and bourbon alcohol. I’m a huge fan of Deliverance and this inverted demon really delivers. Delicious! --- Beer merged from original tick of Track #6: Highway to Hell on 15 Oct 2016 at 20:38 - Score: 8. Bottle poured and split. Much thanks to Tcon for the share. Congrats on writing the job too! Pours a jet black with zero head. Big oak forward, bourbon and spice aroma. Flavor is so smooth considering the heavy tag of abv. Dark fruit, smooth bourbon, a spices. Finishes on a dark fruit note that hints at the idea of being tart. Rich chocolate and bourbon. Can’t go wrong. Excellent stuff.
