Pint can pours with a ruby red to mahogany colored body that supports a light tan head of foam. The modest aroma doesn't seem to have a plan or a purpose as I get cherry and plum esters running up against vanilla notes and a touch of malty sweetness. The taste delivers modest sweet dark fruity esters that quickly give way to vanilla bean richness nuanced with winter spices and murmurs of sweet malts. It seems to me the treatment is there to spruce up a sup bar base barleywine. Is that really needed? Just brew better barleywine. Thank you.

On tap at AZW - DTPHX, pours a hazy dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma has plenty of cocoa nibs upfront, followed by toffee, light vanilla and sweet caramel malt. Flavour is surprisingly bitter and dry, with bitter cocoa nibs, toffee, and fermented out caramel. I can't tell if the malt bass is lacking or if this was just fermented out too long. Finishes a bit metallic as a result. Not AZW's best.

(Tap) cloudy, bright orange brown colour with a small cream colored head; aroma of brown sugar, jam; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter sweet finish
