Tap, 23 Club, Liverpool. Clear orangey looks capped by a white head. Skunky piney hop beak with dollops of tropical fruit. Lovely fruits in the somewhat sweet flavour, with mango and orange alongside caramel and spice notes. The anticipated heavy warming booze hit unfolded but maybe with a little of the abv hidden in the shadows. Hot diggedy damn, quantities of this could get you in all sorts of trouble.

On tap at Buxton Tap House, Buxton. Pours dark orange to amber with off-white head. Tropical fruit, citrus, pine aroma. Sweet, caramel malts, ripe fruit flavor with long hoppy bitter finish. Warming alcohol, but well hidden considering the ABV.

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Hazy orange with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, light pepper and rather hoppy - peach and grapefruit. Flavor is very sweet and very bitter. Dry and very bitter finish with warming alcohol. Oily. Really good, but a bit over the top for me in terms of alcohol for a double IPA. 170115

Appearance: Light hazy deep golden color, with a fine thick off white head that leaves an ok lacing.
Aroma: Rich sweet caramel, fruity and hoppy.
Palate: Full body. A bit sweet and a nice bitterness. Average to soft carbonation. Oily texture.
Taste: Caramel, toffee, fruity and hoppy.
Overall impression: Quite tasty stuff. A bit to much over on the sweet side. Yet still quite balanced. Well masked alcohol.
Personal stats: Bottle at a tasting with Buxton/Haandbryggeriet at Verkstedet in Oslo, Norway

From a 33cl at Buxton/Haandbryggeriet tasting at Verkstedet, Oslo. Pours hazy orange with a white head. Hoppy aroma with fruity notes, hop juice and lightly caramelly. Fairly sweet with moderate hoppy and fruity flavours and a decent bitterness. Certainly decent stuff, but a bit too much on the sweet side for my taste. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Double Axe 2014 on 29 Oct 2014 at 21:01 - Score: 7

Bottle [from trade with madmitch76] @ home. Clear dark orange color, medium sized off-white head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is malts, sweetish malts, a lot of sweetish sticky hops, pineapple, resin. Taste malts, again a huge amount of hops, sweetish hops, resin, pine. Sticky texture, medium to full body, medium carbonation. Full on almost sweet and sticky double IPA. Nice!

A dark orange beer, a head is quite small and blond. The nose has tropical fruits, peaches, strong sweetness, caramel and fructose, hint of pine forest. Bitterness and sweetness are quite nicely balanced in the taste, caramel, pine needles, some tropical fruits, the huge amount of alcohol is warming in the throat but it’s not taste. Full bodied, low carbonation, not sticky. Double Axe is straightforward DIPA that is not so complex as Axe Edge. Doubling isn’t makes this better. Quite sweet, caramelly and piney DIPA.
