Interesting beer, layered and complex but also over-oaked. Heavy notes of caramel, forest honey, red wine, a little bourbon, baking spice, and a little funk, but way too much woody bitterness. Back end is almost medicinal in its overwhelming bitter oak streak, distracting from the nuances of a normal doppelbock. Cool idea, but could use some fine-tuning.
