A smooth yet dry Belgian strong ale that hides it's 10% ABV very well, it's packed full of caramel, toffee and liquorice flavours and is quite possibly our favourite brew for a winters evening.

33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Pours very dark brown, with an almost non-existing head. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, licorice, dark fruits and hints of alcohol. Sweet with moderate roasty flavours, quite vinous and with just a light bitterness and warming alcohol. Carbonation is very soft, close to flat. Quite tasty brew, but a bit to sweet and flat - still quite solid stuff.

Bottle, at Christianssand Brygghus. It pours a clear looking dark brown body under a small, light beige head. The aroma has roasted malts, dark dried fruits, coffee hints and some berries, chocolate, alcohol and bakers yeast. Dried fruits, some roasted malts and alcohol in the flavor, as well as some berries. It feels a bit thin on the palate, although it’s not. Not much alcohol warmth considering the ABV. The finish is pretty much the same as the initial flavor. Not an impressive one, but quite decent anyway. A tad boring too. 140405

330 ml bottle at Christianssand Brygghus. Dark brown body with a very small tan head and low carbonation. Nice aroma of dark malt, dry fruit and a hint of wood and warming alcohol. Flavor is sweet malty, vinous, dry fruit, a hint of chocolate and some oak. Fine body and long aftertaste that’s quite vinous. Very enjoyable.

0.33l bottle. Disappointing head on this one. Only a thin near translucent bubbly thing that quickly turns thin sidesticking and eventually just gone. The beer is dark brown in color and bit cloudy. It smells quite nice though. Lots of salty licorice and cocoa powder here. Also it's light or light+smoky and roapy with a little subtle hint of alcohol. Yeah, perhaps a bit one dimensional but it smells quite good I have to say! It has a non choxolingly soft carbonation level this, almost flat actually and in the mouth it's oily, thick and almost a bit slimy. Strange. Lots of salty licorice in the taste also, and that light+ smoky the sticks. Fudge and sweet marzipan with a really present alcohol touch (that I by the way quite enjoy in this) and a little bit of anise/fennel also going on here. The salty licorice is dominating and that's rarely a bad thing. It's also quite sweet and it has lots of flavor! Have to admit that I'm quite enjoying this tonight. 31.10.2013

Very thin brown head. Opaque black body goes hazy dark red at edge. Spicy linoleum and nylon aroma with earthy barnyard notes. Sweetish earthy spicy nylon aroma with malty licorice notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish-sweet roasty earthy barnyard aftertaste with spicy nylon notes. Very interesting and vivid flavour. Part of it reminds me of a down jacket that’s been heated by the sun. Weird. (0.33l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)
