Aged in barrels that previously held Heaven Hill Maple Bourbon. Still big. Still mean. Still Russian.

Tilton draught, 7/5/25.
Dark, undetermined clarity. Small, tan head.
Nose has a weird waxiness, earthiness and slight unfinished sugar (or is it the maple from the maple bourbon?). I don't know but it doesn't have any classic bourbon elements and there's little deep, intense fudginess from malt. No alcohol noted.
Weird flavors continue the trend with baked bean, wax and earth. No intense fudge, or soft chocolate, nothing resembling Heaven Hill that I can find. Body is medium, a bit sweet and sugary. Doesn't seem barrel-aged at all. Certainly doesn't have any of the good qualities of a Barrel-Aged stout.

Can pour from Beer and Wine Nation. It's a viscous, opaque black with light sparkle, 2-finger-plus beige head with good retention and no lacing. Aroma is earthy malt, toffee, maple, bourbon. Taste is strong toffee, bourbon, maple, earthy malt. Mouthfeel is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, aroma and flavor could be a bit more amped up but great balance and decent complexity.

Sample at the source. Inky black without much of a head Huge roasted coffee with bits of vanilla maple and oak tannin. Light earthy hop and dark fruit notes. Great barrel aged sipper.
