On tap at Café Sara, Oslo. Clear mahogany with a small, but lasting tan head. Aroma of malts, vanilla, caramel, dark dried fruits, bourbon and hints of spices. Initial thought was that it was too sweet and too much vanilla. Felt more balanced after a while. Still quite sweet snd lots of vanilla, but complex and enjoyable. Nice sipper.

Bottle 500ml @ Geokkjer
Pours dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, chocolate, wood, dried fruits, spices and alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, burned wood, chocolate and spicy wood finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, batch 1095. Nøgne Ø rating no 100. It pours an unclear brown body under a dense, two-finger dark beige heaad. The aroma has loads of oak, some booze nots tending towards lackquer, and caramel, brown sugar, nuts and brown rum. Burnt, almost bonfire-ish hints. Some blue plums too. It’s soft and pleasant on the palate, warming and slighlty oily, with a nice sweetness. Alcohol, roasted malts, oak, coffee and nuts in the flavor, some bitterness and bonfire. Lasting roasted finish with caramel, nuts and some warming alcohol. Rather sweetish. Luckily the level of oak and lacquer in the initial aroma soon diminishes and the beer mellows. Been thinking I could never finish a bottle of this on my own, but given an hour or so I could definitely do it. A beer that can’t be judged by just a sip or two. 140317
