(On tap at the brewpub, March 8 2014) Pours basically black with a small, tight tan head with a little lace. Aroma has big sour dark fruit, a reasonable amount of toasty wood, some bourbon and a slight sweet chocolate malt note. Flavour has lots of sour/tart dark fruit and a little roast malt up front with a bit of red wine character, a sweeter dark coffee/chocolate malt stout character makes its presence felt in the middle while the bourbon and wood builds into the finish, which is pleasantly dry and toasty with a lingering sour/tart fruitiness. Medium bodied with soft carb, silky smooth. Love the integration of the character of a sour with the bourbon wood notes and the underlying stout body is just powerful enough to be felt without overwhelming those items. Could sip this for ages, until the 11% puts one to sleep. Super.

Pours dark with thick head that leaves minor lacing. Smells of oak berries, bourbon and molasses. Tastes of toasty malts, oak, the bourbon steps in, booze and a little wine. Medium-high carbonation. A good beer. I think Nicklebrook did a better job with this type of beer with their Kentucky Bastard.
