Found this bottle at Binny's downtown Chicago early this summer while seeing a Cubs home stand. A 16.9 oz offering, I look forward to opening. I have a snifter at hand, sure, let's do it. Blacker than, well, I cannot say, very black for sure. An almost nonexistent head, no concern. A great, aggressive scent, the darkest chocolate you can imagine, strawberry and Tootsie Roll. A very broad taste, wow, I have to sort this out. Chocolate cake, tobacco, bacon, berry and rye bread. Geez, different. And that can be good. 2019 version, 13%, let us see where this leads as I finish the bottle. Cubs won both games I saw, all to the good. City of big shoulders.

2015 notes. So long since I’ve "visited" these guys, and so far from when they started with a ready-made 3 barrel brew works that boasted of never repitching yeast. Solid black, with a thin layer of brown foam, like a pourover coffee. After a pretzel with strong stone-ground mustard, my nose is not going to pick up subtleties: just some vague but not too bitter coffee roast malt. Taste delivers a truly big and complex imperial stout taste, with light mocha coffee. Alcohol just builds in the back of my throat. Yet it’s very easy drinking thanks to its malty sweetness and low bitterness.
