Bottle. A dense, finger-thick off-white head forms over a clear, golden body. The aroma has a caramel rum-touch without the booze, some toffee and dried fruit notes, and a malty note. It’s quite sweet on the palate, but far from cloying, with a decent bitterness. Caramel, rum notes and some dried fruits. Long rum-like finish. Full body, pleasant and soft carbonation level. Quite nice this one, but lacking a bit on one-dimensional. 1401024

33cl bottle Sample from Victoria (brewer’s daughter) at Stockbridge Market. Apparently, it’s an Appleton Rum barrel. Pours amber to blonde in colour with a little cloudiness. The nose is sweet with honey and caramel notes with an oak finish. The taste has more honey, oak and caramel. Overall, a decent beer though I think the underlying beer needs more body to deal with the barrel influence.
