Estonians are rye nation. This grain was sacred to us already when the rest of the world considered rye to be a weed. We did live together with the grain after all. The threshing barn was the most important building in the farm – the sheaves were dried on the poles, threshing was done on the floor and in the chambers our ancestors grew up. The crown jewel of the threshing barn was the large barn oven. It warmed the chambers, cooking pots were simmering on its flames and deep in the belly of the oven the good black rye bread was baked.

Draught @ Ota Olut! Aroma has soy sauce, salty licorice and coffee. Also some whisky tones. Flavour has salty licorice, soy sauce and herbal notes. Also some coffee and mild ashy notes. The whiskey is hardly present. Too salty for me.

Bottled@HBF2016. Deep brown colour, small beige head. Aroma is fruits, some wood, mild herbs and some slight spices to it. Flavour is fruity, floral, herbal and some slight notes of rye and alcohol.

Bottle @ hbf 2016. Pours mahogany deep brown, thick off white head. Caramel, bready malty, sweetness. Flavor has sweetness, caramel, hops, dark fruits. Pleasant.

Draft sample @ TCBW ’16. Brune foncée/noire, col crémeux blanc-cassé. Arôme au nez plaisant, malté et grillé, caramel sur léger café flocon avoine avec un rétro-nasal houblonné qui reste plus en retrait contribuant peu au développement de cet aspect olfactif. Palais au profil épais d’avoine, seigle, malté et grillé avec un fini doux un peu sur le mélanoide. Petite amertume perce en fin de bouche, mais balancée par une certaine épaisseur et douceur du seigle qui perdure au fil de la dégustation.

Bottle, batch 1, BB 05.02.17. Pours dark brown. Aroma is cocoa, dark & milk chocolate, malt, milky notes. Flavor is sweet, cocoa, malt, rye, dark chcolate, mellow roast. Finish is dark chocolate with some sweetness and alcohol. Overall: ok milky stout, bit boozy maybe.

Tap at Tallinn Craft Beer Weeken 2016, Tallinn. Colour is black with slightly brownish white head. Aromas and flavours: Grain, coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Nice and soft.

Brown color with tan head. Aroma is dark malts, a bit spicy yeasts. Taste is the same, some nice character there. Smooth mouthfeel, full-bodied. Good.

33cl bottle at Drink bar, Tallinn. Pours very dark mahogany coloured with a beige head. Roasty aroma with dark fruits, rye bread, chocolate, hints of coffee, spices and caramel. Sweet, smooth, warming and very well balanced. Some bitterness in the finish. Certainly pleasant stuff!
