22 oz bottle purchased at Lukas Liquors in Overland Park, Kansas. The pour is a hazed brown copper golden with a ½ inch light khaki head that is lasting. The head eventually falls with pretty lacing. The aroma is big expressive oak, rich, vanilla and buttery; along with sweet caramel malt. There is a char / roast present as well, which emerges as the beer warms. Clean, well integrated aromas. The taste is a nice combination of the char roast up front, vanilla buttery oak in the middle, and sweet caramel malt towards the back. As with the nose, flavors are expertly integrated with beautiful transitions from char to oak to malt. The palate is medium bodied, soft active carbonation, and wood and char lingering in the drier finish. This beer is certainly unique, and expertly executed. I generally feel wood detracts from my overall enjoyment of a beer, but it was so well utilized in this beer that it really made it shine. Torn Label is killing it.
