Originating in Einbeck, Germany, the Bavarian pronunciation of the now world famous town is ’billy goat’! Maltier, stronger and darker than you dare! Think Bavaria, clinking steins and merriment as the perfect accompaniment to this homage to Dopplebock!

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Clear dark brown beer thin beige head. Sweet banana, and malty aroma. Taste has slight sweetness and hops on the finish. Not sure how much like a Bock it is, but I liked it.

Bottle from Sainsburys, Watford. Poured a clear chestnut colour with an off white head, which dissipated rather rapidly. Aroma of caramel, grass and boiled sweets. Initial flavours were quite sweet with some brown sugar, chewy malt and grain. Finish was slightly odd; rather herbal with notes of aniseed and toffee. Missed the mark somewhat, methinks...

Bottle from Sainsbury’s. The goat on the label scared my wife, which is neither here nor there but should be noted. Mid brown. Crystal malt, candied orange and brown sugar on the nose. Sweet, heavy malt taste. Sour/sweet most of the way down except for a reasonable bitterness on the finish. A good beer from the ever-dependable Bateman’s. However, as this beer won the 2013 Sainsbury’s Beer Hunt, perhaps I was expecting something more complex.
