Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. There’s some malts in the aroma – but not much else. Pours an almost murky golden brown with minimal off-white head and excellent lacing. In the mouth there’s a mix of orange peel, grains and werthers original sweets, plus some traces of indistinct hops. Later on there are hints of ginger and spices too. Finish is bitter sweet. This is OK, but a nothing beer really.

Cask @ Pie & Ale, Manchester. Pale gold with a head. Its ginger is heavier in its nose than taste, but not too stated in either. Unexcitingly palatable.
