Poured from 473mL can. Hazy brown-ish orange with small off-white head. Bready caramel malt, feint smoke, light bittering hops in the background. Everything blends together decently. Not bad for the style.

5oz pour at The Magnet. Pours murky amber with a white head. Light malty nose. Flavour definitely has a woody smokiness to it, though quite gentle, some toasted rye bread, and bread crusts. Interesting beer, pleasant enough.

On tap the Magnet, pours s cloudy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma has plenty of caramel, bready malt, gentle English hops, and a hint of smoked malt. Flavour is well-balanced, with peated malt, toasted caramel, bready malt, and subtle hops. Really nice addition of the smoked malt. Really good.

An unusual concept, smoked ESB, but one that I tried to brew myself in the 90s, so I was pretty pumped to see this on the menu at a professional brewery. Hazy amber, thin head. Light smoked mainly in the finish. This has that sort of cask ale juiciness, despite being on CO2, and the smoke comes out a bit more as it warms. It wasn't a great idea in the 90s and there's definitely a reason more brewers don't try it.
