A growing South Texas tradition, La Muerta is brewed each year for Día de los Muertos in honor of our departed friends and family. A big, lush Imperial Stout, La Muerta is full of roast, smoke and chocolate flavors from an array of specialty malts that go into this garnetblack ale. If you are holding this bottle, it means either you (or someone you know with a kind heart) boldly stood in line for hours on the first Saturday of November. Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is soft and slightly heavy. Rich dark malt with some molasses. Unsweet dark chocolate. Malt cream and a touch of caramel. Trace of bubblegum esters underneath.

Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours dark brown with a creamy, tan head. Tangy dark malt nose, some char, earth. Big sweet flavor, dark sugars, some mocha, mellow roast. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Sweet finish with some sticky dark sugars, thick chocolate, some earthy bitterness. Nice.

Vintage 2010 bottle, #221/450, shared by badnewsbeers. Deep charcoal brown-black body, thin discontinuous light brown head. Inky nose with cocoa powder and molasses, smoky, rich, and rather dry. Powder, inky body with cocoa and coffee beans; ashy with milky sweetness. Good but not great.

’10-thanks jtclockwork for sharing-22oz bottle #321 of 450- pours a big brown head that disappears and black color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/roasty/burnt, acidic. Taste is sweet dark malt-dark chocolate/molasses/rosty/burnt, some fruit hops.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Cletus. Vintage 2010. Bottle 319/450. Pours a pitch black with a small light brown head. Heavy, thick hard roast aroma, raisins too. Thick, rich body, sweet hard roast, vanilla accents, licorice and dark dried fruits. Dry finish with some warming alcohol. Very pleasant. 170611

Tasted at the big “SeaBass has got to go” tasting courtesy of askofficerfriendly. Pours deep mahogany with thin mocha like head. The aroma is caramel, prunes, black strap molasses, some booze and chocolate. The taste is black strap molasses, a little bit of prune and super rich dark cherries. To midway malts move forward creating additional notes of chocolate and fudge. Into the finish it seems to be sort of rich yet thin molasses nectar mixing with dark roasted malts, yum.
