Black Walnut Dunkel is our first foray into German-style beer. Originally brewed for an underground beer dinner with our friends at entre, BWD is a rich, malty Dunkelweiss with 250 pounds of Missouri black walnuts. Game birds, such as quail, pair nicely with the unique, earthy character of the walnuts.

Draft. A- Walnut, faint sweetness. A- Copper color, clear liquid, white head. T- Walnut. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- The walnut is strong but it's not too dry or roasty. A faint sweetness, almost like a vanilla walnut ice cream. Would like some more of this.

16oz can from Tavour. Muddy, dark brown pour, foamy beige head. Sweet aroma, woody, nutty, light chocolate and banana. Taste is mildly smoky, sweet, nutty. The black walnuts add quite a bit of character to this dunkelweiss. It finishes fast and dry.

473mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out some red fruits, toasted nuts, and bready malt. Flavour is fruity and nutty, with lots of bready toffee, toasted nuts, and a touch of red fruits. The nuts add a nice element to this. Complex for the style. Very good.

On tap at Perennial. Pours a cloudy brown with medium beige head that lasts. The aroma is toasted malt and dark fruit. Slick body, raisin, bread, light dry finish, very good.
