Let’s face it: a pig’s life is rarely a good life. It’s with good reason that animal activists make us feel shameful about the way we treat our domesticated farm animals. However, there was a time when things were much, much worse…. During the industrialization of Britain in the 18th century also the pork meat production turned into an industry with little concern for the wellbeing of the animals involved. At one point a rebel pig quite literally stood up – a pig that would soon be known under it’s nom de guerre ‘The Piggy Plunderer’. At this time in history revolutionary winds were blowing amongst farm animals over Europe, and in one of her – yes, she was a sow - few interviews ‘The Piggy Plunderer’ gave credit to the German Revolutionäre Rebellenarmee der Schweine for inspiration. Armed with only two cork pistols due to her pacifist views, this brave sow would stop several hundred pig transports in the greater Manchester area and free both the pigs and the poor horses dragging her. It is said that the sheer sight of The Piggy Plunderer would make all humans flee screaming. And as the label depicts, she was indeed a frightening sight. There would also be money stolen from the greedy pork merchants, money that would be used for the repatriation of freed pigs on remote islands where they could live a good and fearless life. The Piggy Plunderer was a true revolutionary, but as with most revolutions they tend to come to an end. And according to legend this kind-hearted sow ended up as a Sunday roast for the mayor and his family.

0.44l can, huge thanks H! Mangled Ham tasting. Hazy golden body, off-white head. Quite pleasant aroma, peachy, bit resinous, somewhat citric and herbal. Lean, dry taste, lime, herbal notes, ending a bit earthy, and quite dry and bitter. Lightly rough, but taste-profile-wise quite pleasant!
