Tap at Bowie. Big chocolate peanut flavors. Really sweet, dessert beer territory. Too sweet to want to go back for more. Sort of one-dimensional, but it is truly a peanut butter Porter I suppose.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is all things peanuts. Flavor is peanut butter and not much else. Its as advertised a peanut butter beer. Not much of the base beer comes through. Leaves a rich peanut butter as it goes down. Good novelty beer but having more than a sample would be tough to get down.

Pours a translucent dark brown color. Brief beige head. Interesting sweet nutty roasted malt aroma has notes of cocoa, peanuts and tootsie rolls. Bittersweet roasted malt flavor. Notes of chocolate and peanuts are present, though not prominent. Creamy mouthfeel and medium bodied. Unusual sour aftertaste.

Exquisite hazelnut, peanut, and coffee aroma. Fizzy cola, thin vanishing head. Strong hazelnut coffee flavor. Dry and fizzy, seltzer-like. Doesn’t drink as well as hyped or hoped. Fantastic aromatics.

On draft at Churchkey DC on Zwanze Day. Pours a clear cola brown with a bubbly tan head. Peanut butter dominates the nose. Chewy Snickers bar flavor with a bitter finish. Interesting. Definitely not a session beer.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse, Charlottesville. Pours nearly black, somewhat thick, small tan head. Smells of peanut butter, chocolate, and roasted peanuts. Tastes funky... unsweetened chocolate, roasted peanuts, and burnt something. Nice try... this kind of beer can be made well (Southern Tier perhaps?), but this isn’t it.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a dark brown color with a thin tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of Reese’s peanut butter cups and a bit of roast. The taste is roasted malts, cocoa, nuts, mild hops. Medium bodied, well balanced.

Aroma is roasty with some chocolate and peanut butter but it is not rich like a peanut butter cup and instead smells more like peanut flour and a bit artificial. Richer chocolate notes would help. Pours a dark brown but not quite black with a fairly thick, moderately sized, tan head that has fairly good retention. Medium low lacing and faint legs. Flavor is better than aroma at first with some sweet, rich dark chocolate notes. Mid palate you get the peanut flour which adds a note of peanut butter but also has me desiring a richer more buttery peanut note. The finish is a bit astringent and slightly bitter. There is even a hint of alcohol in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied and a touch watery with medium low carbonation. Medium astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall this is not the beer for me and leaves me thinking that peanut butter should not be approximated in beer. Peanut flour is not peanut butter and the oil in the butter wouldn’t work. The beer is interesting and the chocolate in the flavor is better than the aroma but I cannot think of anything else that is positive to say about this beer.
