Keg at the Southern. It pours lightly hazy amber with a small white head. The nose is toasted grain, dough, lemon, lime and grapefruit. The taste is crisp, grassy, toasty, grass, brown bread, lemon and grapefruit peel with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Fairly simple stuff. Ok.

On cask at the Southern. Appearance - light golden with a proportionate head. Nose - dry and grassy. Taste - similar to the nose. Palate - light to medium bodied with a light dry texture and a long dry finish. Overall - typical refreshing Highland pale ale but with a little less flavour. Great palate though.

Re-rate cask at The Southern - a totally different beer! Gentle carbonation and casking with live yeast has made a world of difference. Biscuit and lemon come through a whole lot more. Lovely crisp finish. Keg at The Hanging Bat. Pours clear gold, big frothy white head, big bubbles. High carbonation. Aromas are buttery, light caramel. Taste is also buttery, and the high carbonation prickle spoils it a bit further. Light citrus bitter, but mostly bubbles and butter. Not up to this brewery’s usual high standards.
