We have dived back into the history books as inspiration for this one. Six different malts give a depth to this beer, which is hopped at five stages of the brewing process to allow the character of the noble hop varieties to shine through.

Cask (backlog). Black colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some liquorice, toffee, wood and mild resiny notes. Flavour is liquorice, roasted malts, some toffee and fudgelike sweetness as well as mild coffee and wooden notes. Pleasant raisins and chocolate in the aftertaste.

Cask (gravity) @ Microbar, Market Hall, Arndale Centre, Manchester, Greater Manchester, England M4 2HU.Clear dark brown color with a small, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, strong coffee, roasted, mild coffee, coffee, earthy. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, dusty coffee, dark roasted, earthy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft. [20130125]

Cask @ Craft Beer Co, Islington N1. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty caramel and chocolate aroma. Roasted malty chocolate and caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate and a caramel finish.

Draft at Pleased to Meet You, Newcastle on 29 July 2013. Poured a black with a dense tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, burnt toast and bitter dark chocolate. Flavours of burnt malt, liquorice, dark fruits and cocoa. Dry roasty finish with some detectable hop bitterness.

Cask handpull at The Harp Chandos Place. Its lovely helped by the spectacular condition in this pub. Roasty choccy spritzy just a really good beer good porter good mouthfeel. I melted.

Cask at the Old Fountain - London. Pours deep brown with a frothy, light beige head. Sturdy roasted malts in the nose, some charred wood, baking cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with strog roasted malts, ash, charcoal, bitter earth, some milk chocolate, a bit of baking cocoa, some tobacco. Light to medium bodied with fine, lightly creamy carbonation. Finishes with bitter dark cocoa, strong roasted, charred malts, ash and earth, some burnt marshmallow. A superbly rounded, classical porter.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival in KEGS! Pretty much opaque dark brown beer, bubbly pale tan head. Palate is fairly smooth. Juicy dark malts, nice fruity note in good balance. Mellow unsweet dark chocolate. Finishes smooth with the dark chocolate bitterish in the aftertaste. Nice tangy fruits in this one.

Cask @ Akkurat. Heavy notes of chocolate and espresso. Also some salmiak. Dark chocolate notes in the long aftertaste. Creamy, smooth, yet light, texture.
