Sample at the brewpub. This brew pours a clear copper color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, fruit and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of earthy malt, caramel and grassy hops. The finish is earthy with a malt aftertaste. Decent all around.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild fruity and toasted malty. Bitter, light toasted and medium dry. Bitter and mild fruity into the finish.

The Seattle RB does a more PNW take on Fire Chief, strong and hoppy. Gorgeous golden-amber with thick, rocky head. Rich hoppy nose (wood, grapefruit) with complex caramelly, earthy accents. Even bitterness - great balance - has enough bite to satisfy but the sweet earth and milk chocolate malt notes wipe the slate clean. Not "beer geek" burly but perilously drinkable.
