Our golden ale is a fitting tribute to Southbourne’s most famous acting son Christian Bale, who first came to fame playing the main role in Steven Spielberg’s inaugural directorship of a literary adaptation and Hollywood blockbuster, Empire Of The Sun, at the tender age of only 13 years old and whilst still in attendance at Bournemouth school. Christian has since gone on to star in a number of amazing films such as American Psycho, The Fighter, Batman and The Big Short to name but a few…

9/3/2023. Cask at Brewhouse & Kitchen, Southbourne. Pours clear pale golden orange with a small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, grass, musty fruits, veggie edge. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Moderate body, slightly oily, average carbonation. Developing bittersweet fruit finish. Beer was bad but film was better.

Cask @ the brewpub. Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are grain, malt, hops, fruits and has a nice fruity finish.

Cask @ Brewhouse & Kitchen, Southbourne. Hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, light fruity and light hoppy - grass. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Sweet finish. 090323

Cask at the brewpub. Aroma is sour but not in a good way. Popcorn. Hazy-opaque amber. Frothy foamy white head. Malty. Boiled veg. Citrus edge. Light-medium bodied. Thin if slick. Fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. Bad. Cheapo gold masquerading as an IPA.

Cask, third, shared with Finn at Brewhouse & Kitchen. Bubbly white head, clear dark golden body, minimal lacing. Grassy nose, hints of mid-sweet malts. Mid-sweet flavours of grass and earthy malts. Mid dry malt-fruity endnotes. Accepted. (Southbourne 22.10.2019).

Cask at the brewpub. Hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma of grassy and herbal hops, a light fruitiness and yeast. Flavour is light to light moderate sweet and light moderate bitter. Above light bodied with very soft carbonation.
