Brewed with high-quality Vermont maple syrup and beechwood smoked barley, this big, rich barleywine was then aged for an extended period of time in American rye whiskey barrels. The result is a complex, malty ale with notes of smoke, maple, rye, vanilla, and oak.

This beer is one of AleSmith owner Peter Zien's most awarded home brew recipes, here rebrewed and barrel-aged for the 2019 Order of the Anvil club.

Bottle. Bit of a slow gusher. Pours cloudy mahogany, large beige head, good lacing. Aroma is whiskey forward for sure. Light smoke, loads of dark fruits, raisins, prunes, hints of maple, toffee, dust. Flavor is similar, less fruit and maple, more vanilla, bourbon, cocoa, toffee, dry. Medium sweet, light bitter. Full body, soft mouthfeel

750ml bottle (2019 encore). Smoky, heavy and woody with loads of bourbon, toffee, hints of maple syrup, chocolate, oak and fudge. Quite a lot of smokiness here.
