Our take on a Bavarian Märzen, the lager traditionally served at Oktoberfest celebrations. Before refrigeration, brewing ceased with the coming of spring, typically in March (“März”, in German). To prepare for the fall, brewers developed a rich and toasty brew whose higher abv prevented contamination during the hot summer months. Oktoberfest is similarly full- bodied, boasting complex malt character with a hint of sweetness and a snappy bitter finish. Prost!

Can at home from my Oktoberfest haul. Orange amber pour and sudsy head. Nose is caramel and bready. Tastes of dried fruits, quite malty, dark breads, caramel. Finish is like raisin and fig oddly. Medium bodied.

Broadway draught, 7/31/26.
Oktoberfest in July. Let's go! Very malty, bready, with a strong graininess and moderate caramel. Candy character hopefully from the malt and not yeast. Very low hop (none that I can find).
Interesting. Toasted brown bread with caramel and an almost coffee character but doesn't quite get there. Hop bitterness and burnt caramel on the finish. Cherries and candied oranges. Big malts but it dries out just enough on the end, or very nearly. Very malty, deep texture. Weird take, but intriguing.

Pours clear bright amber into a stein. White head with good retention recedes leaving soapy spots to bubble surface. Caramel, bread and straw aromas. Medium bodied with hot caramel and candy corn front to back. Mild, medium-length earthy hop finish.
