White Hawk is a traditional IPA .The IPA recipe is based on the original 1880 brew that was sent to India for the British troops. The advent of India Pale Ale was born of a need to supply beer in the 1800’s to British troops in India. This hearty, heavily hopped ale was brewed to endure the rigors of the long voyage from Great Britain.
White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft.

Hazy amber. Fresh orangey, woodsy aroma. Rich, sustained bitterness. Lemony, grapefruity middle. Dry and richly hoppy finish. Solid.

This is a pretty good everyday IPA, somewhere between a British and American style. It begins with an American hop bite, with a grapefruit rind bite, and also a spicy locker room sweatiness and a bit of tangelo fruitiness. I don’t know if I’d peg the malts as definitely maris otter, but its a heavy thick breadiness with a touch of caramel. The malts come forward in the flavor, introducing the hop flavors rather than waiting in the background. I like this. The finish is balanced. Color is a rich orangey amber, almost too clear looking, with a thick creamy 2 finger head.

Deep blond color, nice perlage, creamy head, thick lace. Light hop and malt aroma. Very good body, good malt and toffee flavor, somehow sweet, with a good quality hopping.

Bottle. Amber with a little bit of a haze to it. Two fingers of a beige head decorate the top. Aromas are mostly of floral hops, apple juice and yeast. Flavor is caramel malt with a nice piney hops finish, but there is not a really nice connection between any of the elements (aroma, body and finish).

Moderately strong aroma of pineapple, cashew, and caramel. Hazy amber color, no head, with steady streams of carbonation. Excellent mouthfeel, smoky initial taste. Tangy orange and orange peel at midpalate gradually gives way to a tasteful lemon grass. Wonderful transitions and very easy to enjoy.

Looks like cloudy iced tea but a little more orange than brown. Perhaps looks more like some cloudy ciders. No head, just a girdle around the inside edge of the glass. Aroma is mildly floral hops and rather clean. Flavor is heavily hopped bitter and intangible. Rather offensive, exactly what I expected for this crude style. Offensive and ill mannered. This is a fine example of the style. Offensive and difficult to palate. Very bitter at times. Barely any carbonation and any carbonation would be appreciated. A bitter medicinal finish that makes me wish I had a glass of old heathen to warsh this down with as a chaser. Will not buy again.

Aroma of floral hop, and arguably pale malt. Hazy golden amber color with a white head that stayed for awhile. Laces a bit as time passes. Medium bodied, with muted carbonation. Starts with very decent hop level, I think its floral and grapefruit. The malt is there, but the hop seems dominant. Definitely grapefruit as time goes on. The finish is dry, and nicely bitter.

Bottle: Lighter amber color with a large white head and nice lacing. Nose is a bit subdued with notes of citrus hops and malt. Taste is floral and citrus hops with a dry, flowery hop finish. Just enough malt to be balanced, but a little grainy up front. Not bad, but not noteworthy.

Bottle from trader Joes; grainy malt nose with a small hop note; slightly hazed gold with a small white head; flavor was only a small amount of hop bitterness with a bit of caranel in the background. Pretty poor for an IPA.

12 oz bottle. Poured gold to copper in color with off white head and decent lacing. Nice aroma of sweetness and hop notes. Full hop flavor with a sweet malt backbone in the background. The hops taste like mostly early addition bittering pine hops which are pretty much right on for the style. This is a nice IPA but nothing there to set it apart from the sea of IPA brews.
