White Hawk is a traditional IPA .The IPA recipe is based on the original 1880 brew that was sent to India for the British troops. The advent of India Pale Ale was born of a need to supply beer in the 1800’s to British troops in India. This hearty, heavily hopped ale was brewed to endure the rigors of the long voyage from Great Britain.
White Hawk Original IPA was launched in California in early 2002 to meet the demand for a unique India Pale Ale. Consumer response for White Hawk IPA exceeded expectations and it is fast gaining a loyal following both in 6 pack and on draft.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 11/14/09
Aroma: The nose has some floral hops, some citrus fruits, grapefruit, biscuit/bread malts
Appearance: Pours a clear amber-orange color, off-white head, some lace
Flavor: Taste is mostly the citrus and floral hop bitterness, dominating everything else
Palate: It has a medium body and a relatively dry mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Overall, this is a decent IPA, but it just lacks the nice defining characteristics of a top quality IPA. More so, it shoots for a bitter IPA, and while it hits that somewhat, it still feel too much on the one-dimensional side to me.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper orange with a small white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is a piney hops with grapefruit and caramel. Thin mouthfeel and a bit watery on the palate. A sweet hop taste with grapefruit and citrus with a nice dry finish. A good IPA from Mendocino.

Medium, slightly fluffy yellowish head over clear orange-amber beer. Very discreet nose, bit if candi sugar, liqueurish orangepeel; exotic fruit with mainly lytchee. Quite bitter, cookies with glazing that becomes sweet upon dissolving in the oral cavity. Bit metallic bitter, bitter gourd if not as aggressive. Warming up, a not very pleasant flavour, reminding of coffee milk gone bad. But my main issue with this beer lies in the mouthfeel, that, despite being well-carbonated, the beer is life- and listless, like a British kegged ale. Disappointing - certainly for a beer from Mendocino, that made one of my eyeopeners for USA beers. Thanks to whomever bestowed this upon me.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-amber color with a small orange-white head. The aroma was fruity, piney, sour, lightly nutty and had a touch of orange. The flavor was bitter, tangy and fruity with a lightly piney undertone and sour malts throughout. The finish was long sour malts. Ok.

Crisp and refreshing. The hops are noticeable, but not overpowering. The malts tone the hop bite down to a more manageable level for those who aren’t huge hop heads. Flavor of herbal and citrus hops, with light caramel malts.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market in Charlottesville. Golden pour with a medium fizzy head. Citrus hop aroma. Taste is an up front hop bite with a nice malt background. Full bodied.
