pours pitch black with a almost nonexistant brown head. looks very barrel aged in that way.
Strong aroma of bourbon, vanilla, barrel aging, roasted malts. A lot of finer notes open up below this, tobacco, licorice, salt licorice, charred wood, the aroma is really really good if you give it a little time.
flavor is bourbon, roasted malts, notes from wood, the end is bourbon and wood notes. complex but as with the aroma you have to give it some time to develop. the vanilla is perhaps a bit in the way, but other than that it's a great BA bourbon imp stout and if you like the style you'll def. like this one.

Pours black or very close to black, but shows some reddish hints if seen through light. About one finger of very large bubbled off-white/greyish head; shows surprisingly good retention for both looks and abv though, very little lacing. Not that much intensity in the aroma, especially for the abv: a very light, low profile roasted malts base with only a bit of chocolate clearly discernible, strong vanilla, light half whiskeyish half oaky feeling from the barrel aging, a bit of alcohol warmth. Taste notes more or less confirm the aroma: there's quite a deal of underlying sweetness, though a pretty neutral one tastewise (maybe a hint of caramel), light chocolate note, very strong vanilla (way too dominant as the smell suggested), a very light barrel aging contribution (lighter than the smell suggested, just a vague hint of whisky). Overall on the sweet edge in both taste and aftertaste, quite too much actually, only partially saved by a dry enough finish. Quite dense bodied with very light carbonation, probably lighter than expected; feels quite thick but somehow not full or creamy with a not too pleasant oily hint and alcohol a bit too strong for it's not super high per style abv. Overall still drinkable, but pretty disappointing.
