As the name suggests, this beer is flavoursome, with perhaps more bitterness than a typical brew of this type. It is dry hopped with English whole hops for extended periods. This gives characteristics that are not immediately significant, but which develop with age and mean that the beer is excellent both fresh and aged. To be enjoyed slowly, savouring the flavours, and drunk from a stemmed glass just as you would with wine.

(Bottle) Amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, vinous nose with treacle-toffee, caramel, dried fruit, dates, apricots, orange peel and a touch of maple syrup. Malty, vinous taste with notes of dried fruit, dates, apricots, orange peel, treacle, toffee, caramel, nuts and a sweet and vinous finish with a mild resiny, citric bitterness. More than medium body, sweet. Sweet, boozy and quite unrefined. Still fairly enjoyable.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Appearance - cloudy copper. Thin but attractive white lacing. Nose - wood, candied orange. Wood spice. Taste - woody, fudge and nail varnish on the finish. Palate - medium bodied, a bit boozy and woody astringency on the finish. Overall - not sure the nail varnish was intended.

(Bottle) Pours hazy amber brown with tiny loose white head. Pleasant aroma of toffee with honey notes. Full bodied, slightly sticky with fine carbonation. The taste is unusual, complex and interesting, if perhaps a bit discordant. There’s pleasant toffee and honey sweetness up front. There’s some significant hoppy bitterness in the finish. For me, while both are great in their own right, they don’t quite work together; however they also compelled me to taste again. There’s some vinous notes, maybe white port. The booze is well hidden. Very interesting and enjoyable, if a little discordant.

330ml bottle, 2015 vintage (#48502). Poured into a Westmalle chalice at home on 5th Oct 2019. Golden body, wispy white topping. Barley sugar sweet and lovely, cobweb aging just about right. Really enjoyed it.
