So what about this single hop Chinook beer? It was our first beer brewed, very simple, Pale and Special B malts, Chinook Hops and Nottingham ale yeast. Sounds a little bit like a best bitter? Well we aimed for 7.2% and hit 7.4%, figured about 100IBU would just about do it. So not quite a best bitter more an imperial best bitter! Or as we call it a Boring Brown Beer.

Bottle at home 9th June 2013. Aroma is subdued, not much chinook coming through. Taste is very bitter, no relief, some liquorice is nice and some caramel, not great

330ml bottle. Clear ruby red colour with average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Fruity and hoppy aroma, hints of red and dark berries, malty background with a nuttily touch, hints of toffee. Taste is somewhat plain bitter hoppy, surpressed caramel malty, hints of unripe hazelnuts.

33cl bottle, batch no 0001, bottled on Feb 2013. Mahogany color, thick beige head. Sweetish, dark fruity aroma, yeast and tropical fruits in the back. Flavor is amazing, caramel, maple surupy sweetness, fruity hops, some dark bready notes. Bitter finish with caramel lingering. Weard, but it works!

(Cask at Craft Beer Co Islington, London, 26 Apr 2013) Reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of caramel, roasted malt, citrus and piney hops. Malty, roasted taste with cacao, chocolate, freshly ground coffee and a generous piney bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a certain malt sweetness. Interesting, and quite nice.

Cask/GD at the 14th Egham Beer Festival at the EUSC, 28/03/13. Hazed dark chestnut brown with a thin off white head. Nose is hops, rye, bitter tropical fruit notes, orange, sugars. Taste comprises hops, toffee, bitter orange, a certain sourness about this one, hint of grapefruit, sugars. Medium bodied with bite, soft carbonation. Decent but not really an IPA in my book, more like a hopped up ESB!
