Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Location: 22 oz bottle from Central Market, 10/21/13, 2013 Bottle
Aroma: The aroma is nutty, and sweet, with some caramel and roasted malts
Appearance: It pours a rich brown color with a small light brown head and some light lace
Flavor: The taste is medium sweet, fairly nutty, and a little roasty, with a mild earthy bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it has a smooth, clean feel, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression: Pretty solid stuff overall. The pecans and brown sugar flavors are clearly there, but they are also subtle enough that the clean malty flavors can come through too. Fairly light and easy drinking for the style.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/29/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of milk chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, pecan nuttiness, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt and pecan notes; with good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, toast, toffee, brown sugar, pecan nuttiness, brown bread, caramel, light roast, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, pecan nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt flavors with moderate nutty pecan presence; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and moderately slick mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial porter style! All around good balance and robustness of dark/roasted malt and pecan flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

On draught at Yard House San Diego. Brownish-black color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted nuts, malt and grain in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of toasted malt, pecans and brown sugar. The finish is sweet with a roasted coffee and malt aftertaste. Above average overall.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy brown with medium frothy tan head that lasts awhile leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a strong pecan, chocolate, and roast. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet roasted malt, dark chocolate, cocoa, and light bitterness in the finish. Easy to drink, a good porter.
