Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Bottle, Beers of Europe. Poured a deep dark brown colour with a dignified tan head. Sweet choc n’ nut nose. Pecan aspect seemed pretty subdued. Sweet flavour with some roast , malts and choc notes A bit on the thin watery side. OK, but a bit disappointing overall

Shared bomber, snifter. Aroma: brown sugar. Brown sugar and pecan accents that don’t mess an average porter. Dry finish.

4/I/14 - 1Pt. 6.Fl. Oz. bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: n/a (2014-12) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown beer, aery irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. aroma: lots of chocolate, mocha, dried fruits, sweet, floral, and yes, the smell of caramelised pecans, but maybe that's only because I know? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: dark chocolate, mocha, hoppy bitterness, dried fruits like dates and figs, some alcohol, raisins. Aftertaste: pretty hoppy, mocha and coffee, caramel, bit sweet, bitter.

Bottled 650ml (WPBF)
Opaque black color, tiny off-white head. Toasted, rye bread malty aroma. Medium-bodied. Bready, slightly toasted flavor. Hints of caramel, not much pecan found. Simple toasty porter without much substance.

65 cl bottle @ wPBF’14, no BBE info
Aroma has some roastiness and distant moldy tones. Flavour is nutty with roasted notes, some cocoa and bitter coffee. Good, but no big feelings here.

On tap at Yard House Houston. It pours a dense, finger thick tan head over a more or less black body. It’s quite roasted on the nose, with a solid shot of licorice. Dark chocolate too. It’s pleasantly carbonated, medium to full bodied on the palate, and quite dry even though there’s sweetness going on in the flavor. Roasted malts, some dark chocolate and bitterness, and quite a lot of salty licorice, as well as some nuts. Lasting finish with roasted malts and safety licorice. Some sweetness too, but it’s bitter enough to prevent it from even getting close to cloying. Sure a nice one. Especially like the licorice, but hoped for more nuts. 131111

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s Fort Collins. Pours a dep brown/black appearance with a dark brown head. Anise, aramel, turtle dessert, chocolate, earthy, roasty malty, slightly grassy/herbal hoppy aroma. Roasty, slightly burnt, big anise, dark chocolate, slightly nutty, quite earthy flavor that finishes a bit watery. Kind of thin with a bit of bitterness on the finish but still kind of watery.
