355ml bottle. Pitch black colour with small, frothy, reawakening, then fading, tan head. Cautious dark malty aroma with a nuttly touch, hints of coffee. Taste is moderately sweet dark malty, hints of rock sugar. Flat carbonation, slightly insipid, disappointing.

Draft @ Bishops Arms Gustaf, Malmö. Brune-cuivre, col beige, collant. Arôme malt grillé, léger café, toffee et fudge, pointe légère de réglisse. Palais est léger, malté, grillé, pointe lacto et grillé, le tout sur un caramel moyen. Palais garde une certaine rondeur sucrée accompagnée d’une fine note de fruits noirs. Palais reste généralement sec avec une amertume discrète. Garde aussi un léger côté réglisse.

Aroma: Tangy aroma of vanilla and milky coffee.
Appearance: Black body with a thin tan head. No lacing marks.
Taste: Chocolate, wood, coffee and vanilla flavours, but not a huge amount of depth. Sweet and slightly smoky.
Palate: Thin to medium body with a watery mouthfeel. Lively carbonation fizz.
Overall: A flavoursome Stout, but not particularly deep or rich and the texture is very thin. A bit forgettable.

Bottle from Chester Beer & Wine. Poured a deep dark brown with a beige head. Sweet malt nose laced with some burnt character that continued into the flavour with the addition of some chocolate and vanilla notes. OK, but ultimately forgettable.

355ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours opaque black with a nice crema head. The nose has bitter chocolate with a hint of liquorice. The taste has more of the same. The palate is thinner than I’d hoped with a fairly refreshing finish for this style of beer. Overall, solid but not amazing.

Tap at the Cask, Pimlico, 18/01/13, split with Chris, Jan and Charlotte. Mid black with a thin tan head that soon clears and leaves edgeing only. Nose is dark roast malt, treacle toffee, molasses. Taste comprises milk chocolate, dark roast malt, cherry notes in a chocolate confectionary sense, molasses. Medium body, a little spritzy in the carbonation front, dry finish. Ok.

Bottle shared at CBC - Clerkenwell, London - thanks to Tommy Marshall and Seth. Pours dark, red-brown with a big, beige cream head. Dusty and sugary milk chocolate nose. Medium to big sweet flavor, some lactic chocolate notes, burnt malts, mild earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with average to big, creamy carbonation. Lightly roasty finish with burnt sugars, faint tangy dark malts, milky chocolate. OK.
