Gedronken in het proeflokaal van De Prael van tap. Mooie bijna zwarte kleur, goed schuim, lekker zoet aroma. Prima smaak ook.

33 cl bottle (as Johnny Dark Lager 12,5 years special edition, from 2015). Black color. Firm, rocky light beige head. Aroma’s: light roast, light red fruit, light sweet. More fruity retronasal, less sweetness, but still some caramel malts. Flavor is light fruity sour, light sweet, light roasted. Light bodied, quite thin actually. finishes with roast, moderate bitter.

33cl Bottle bought from the brewery as Darth Lager, sold as Dark Lager at the brewpub. Apparently an alias of Johnny Gold. Drunk from the bottle. Aroma is yeasty, like Brouwerij ’t IJ yeast back when they still had infection issues, dark malts, chocolate, hint of roast, caramel. Flavour is light funky, yeasty, light infection but not disturbing, chocolate, roast, bittersweet finish. Light bodied. Decent, and tastier than I remembered Johnny Gold to be.

Unlabeled bottle at De Prael. Almost black with light brown head that leaves just a very thin ring. Ashy, lots of roasted notes, light red fruits, herbs, tobacco, soft chalky. Light sweet and bitter. Under medium bodied with slick feel and low carbonation. More a stout than schwartzbier, but not bad.
