Poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a copper body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a blend of red apples and crystal malts moving into spicy anise like black licorice with a faint smoke pork note toward the end of the draw. The taste delivers some sweet crystal malts, some spicy molasses and anise blended with red apple and a bitter spicy woodiness. Another sip pulls up more spiciness like black strap molasses. Interesting. Pretty nice as it is balanced and has a modest dryness into the finish.
