12oz can from Trader Joe's. Light amber pour with a short-lived fizzy head. Aroma is malty and sweet. Taste is also malty with metallic notes. Taste like you're licking the can.

12 oz. can from Trader Joe. Pours a hazy bronze color with a beige head and very good retention. Limited lacing. Sourish yeast aroma. Medicinal and metallic malts flavors with a slightly boozy finish. Limited hops flavor or bitterness. Tastes more like an old amber ale and malt liquor mix. Crisp mouthfeel. Medium body. Acidic finish. Poorly made. Cheap, and it tastes like it.

Boatswain American IPA can pour into nonic pint glass at TJ's. Appearance is lightly hazy orange-brown with minimal sparkle, finger-width beige fizzy head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is bread/nondescript malts, mild fruit, basement. Taste is cardboard, fruit, earthy resin and vaguely buttery (diacetyl) quality as mentioned in other reviews. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with foamy texture, average carbonation and finish as taste with light bitterness. Overall, this is really a terrible IPA (hence its "1" rating for style). But, I'm not sure for what style it would be considered good. It is not good. Don't waste your money, even the $.84 I spent on it. Not worth it.

Can as part of the Trader Joe's 'Boatswain' range. Amber in colour, with a slight, white, head. Sweet, heavy malts, rather artificial citrus notes and a boozy, heavy, finish. Not for me.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a huge beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, elderflowers, and fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, flowers, and fruit, leading to a bitter finish.

$3 bomber! This stuff so rude it borders on the double imperial old IPA taste. Cloudy iced tea color. Strong, medicinal. Alky begins to stick its ugly head up. Does have some minor cutting co2 in the background. Difficult, semi hard, strenuous, arduous, laborious, tough, onerous, burdensome, demanding, punishing, grueling, and nearly back-breaking, Good deal, thanks trader joe.

Bomber as "Boatswain" from Trader Joeβs - I bought this because it was cheap and I sometimes have luck with these Trader Joeβs beers - hard to know how to rate this, as itβs not really an IPA - it tastes more like a watered-down, mediocre American Barleywine - clear light amber - pretty much no head - nose of toffee, fruit cocktail, treacle, brown sugar - if I came to it blind without knowing the style, I might actually find it pleasant, albeit a bit sweet - kind of watery and thin in the mouth - caramelized sugars, moderate bitterness, some oxidized kind of sherry-like notes, cherry - finish is really husky - weird beer, but not entirely without enjoyable parts.

Truly a putrid mess. Thumper IPA keeps going and going, destroying any sense of good taste and craftsmanship in its wake. A sweet, trashy mix of garbage. Pours brown, finishes like a cheap rum candy. Bottle for two bucks at Trader Joes.
