A little bit mixed feelings on this one. Basically: its a good beer hedonically speaking, but it misses the mark stylistically. Given that I don't rate to style, this ordinarily wouldn't be a problem. But the thing is, I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to fest/marzen beers - and so there's a benchmark that I want to see, a certain expectation, and this beer doesn't hit it. Cloudy, pale amber. Leans malt, semi-sweet, but a bit grainy, not juicy. Despite being only semi-sweet there's some element here that is almost cloying. I think its the combo of caramel malt (and no apparent vienna malt that I can taste) and a graininess reminiscent of malt liquor. The score is purely hedonic.

Since moving here Red Cypress has become one of my go to breweries and I love a Fest bier. Fine orange copper. Nose is caramel and leaf litter. Tastes of wet fallen leaves, caramel, malt, bready. Little sticky. Enjoyable.

Draft @ the brewery. Pours clear copper color with off white head. Aromas of toasted malt and caramel. Similar flavors with a touch of sweetness. Medium body with average carbonation.
