What a cool label on this beer, minimalist but it really jumps out at you. And a beer in a style that has risen to be one of my favorites now. It’s unfortunate there are so few black IPAs to obtain, I rarely see them. I located a 16 oz can at the HEB closest to where I live. Drinking out of a snifter from a Houston brewery no longer operating, the glass gets the pour. Dark mahogany brown in appearance finished by a stupendous head of mocha foam. I smell plenty of hops, burnt grain and maybe some grapefruit. The taste is full and pretty rich. The hops again, charred wood, leather, toast, heavy malt and a bare hint of caramel sweetness. A fine beer flexing in an under appreciated style.

Pounder from Lone Star. Smushed printed date. Right out the luggage, an hour in the fringe & poured into a pint glass at home. Frothy oatmeal, darker than cola. Tea, light bright fruit, fresh dank & mellow spice nose. Bittersweet, light crusty char, tea tannins, initial dank dies back & becomes more like a fresh hop leafy green. Creamy but becomes thin, irritating carb, leaning off-dry. Very tasty.
