Barrel-Fermented Doppelbock

Tmavétor is our interpretation of the rare Czech Tmavé Speciální 20º, a Czech-style doppelbock brewed with all German malts and hops. Our version is partially fermented in second-use bourbon barrels to accentuate the rich and toasty notes of caramelized sugar, dark fruit and maple in this strong dark lager.

On tap at Reuben’s, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of toasted malt, a touch of caramel, no hint of bourbon if I squint. Flavour is big, with some bourbon, toasted caramel, bready malt, and light booze. Nice bourbon character to go along with the dark malts. Very good.

375 mL bottle poured, gifted by Matt. Thanks! A near black, cola like pour with moderate, tan foam head. Really interesting lager here. Love the barrel notes here, as they are subtle, and not overpowering. Just enough touch of Bourbon like notes. A flavorful caramel like malt. Autumn like flavor as I would callnit, with toasty malts and maple notes. A somewhat dry finish. Soft Bourbon return to the palate. Fun take on the style. Really enjoy this.
